| Brett Dennen and Philip Aaberg perform for Crown Guitar Foundation fundraiser on Dec. 4 On December 4, the self-proclaimed “Wild Child” guitarist and singer-songwriter, Brett Dennen, will join with Montana-based composer and pianist, Philip Aaberg, in a special fundraising concert to support the scholarship program of the Crown of the Continent Guitar Workshop. The show will start at 7:00 pm at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center and offers a pre-show party at Abruzzo restaurant and a post-show party at the Firebrand Hotel. These include an opportunity to meet and greet the artists, bid on auction items and enjoy more music. This will be both artists’ second appearance at a Crown Guitar event. Dennen played to a full house at the 2015 Crown Guitar Festival in Bigfork bringing the crowd to its feet with his infectious one-of-a-kind voice, barefoot dancing and let’s-get-happy attitude. The folk/pop singer says his early inspiration came from Paul Simon and his songwriting style has been compared to Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Jack Johnson, James Taylor, and Wynonna Judd. His song “Comeback Kid (That's My Dog)” was the theme for the TV show About a Boy and he has six full studio albums and five live discs and EPs. Pianist Philip Aaberg is well–known to Montana audiences for his compositions that evoke the spaciousness and beauty of the Western landscape. Now based in his hometown of Chester, MT, Aaberg is classically trained holding a music degree from Harvard and was the recipient of a Leonard Bernstein Scholarship. His musical career is as diverse and expansive as the Montana landscape he calls home. After graduation, Aaberg moved to California to make pop and rock records eventually joining the Elvin Bishop Group in 1973, and touring for four years. He later joined with Peter Gabriel and recorded with the Doobie Brothers, Kenny Rogers and Vince Gill. Aaberg began composing his own music, signed with Windham Hill and released a solo album “High Plains,” bringing elements of blues, bluegrass, rock, and new music to his meditative compositions. “This event will be a great kick off for our focused funding program that’s all about local scholarships and bringing the best musicians and teachers into the Valley. Our mission at the Crown is to boost every participant’s performance, composition, collaboration and skill level up a notch or more through mentorship. Both Brett and Phil are considered two of the best today in the music world. Please join us for this magical evening!” urges Steve Anderson, Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation Executive Director. Tickets for the fundraising event are $100 for the VIP ticket that includes a meet and greet with wine and food at Abruzzo and VIP seating that can include seats on the stage. Preferred seating is $75 with excellent seating and includes a drink ticket for the after party at the Firebrand. General Admission seats are $50. Student tickets are $10 with a student ID. Purchase tickets online at www. crownguitarfest.org. All seats are $10 more at the door day of show. With this COCGF Fundraising concert and event, 70% of all donations will go towards the scholarship fund. This fund provides local musicians and students with the opportunity to attend, learn, and perform at the Crown of the Continent Guitar Workshop and Festival each year. | On Saturday December 8th, Sparrow’s Nest of Northwest Montana will host its fifth annual “When the Night Comes” fundraising event to raise awareness about the issue of unaccompanied homeless high school students in the Flathead Valley. The event will be held at Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church, 400 W California St, Kalispell, MT 59901. Doors will open at 5 pm for the soup kitchen dinner with a 20 minute presentation beginning at 5:45 pm. The dinner / presentation is free and open to anyone wishing to learn more about Sparrow's Nest and our mission. Following the presentation, participants in the sleep out will spend the night outside (7 pm to 7 am) as an act of solidarity with and to experience what unaccompanied homeless high school students in the Flathead Valley face on a daily basis. | Before Santa makes his trip around the world, he leads a fiery torchlight parade down the slopes at Whitefish Mountain Resort and hands out a few presents to good girls and boys. Gather at the bottom of Ed’s Run just outside of Ed and Mully’s to watch the Torchlight Parade descend from the top of Chair 2. This Montana Christmas Tradition makes for great photos and is a special event for the whole family. Santa will give gifts out in Ed and Mully’s following the parade. 6 pm: Torchlight Parade 6:30 – 8 pm – Santa’s Gift Giveaway GIFT INFORMATION: Anyone can bring ONE gift per child to be given by Santa and his Whitefish Elf. Please leave more valuable gifts for Christmas morning. You must include the name, age, and hometown of the child on the package. Please write clearly and legibly in large print. If you have more than one child, please wrap all gifts in the same type of paper. Gift drop-off: Base Lodge Tickets and Information (2nd Floor) or Whitefish Mountain Resort Lodging Check-In (located in Kintla Lodge in the Upper Village) anytime before 4 pm on December 24. If you are interested in skiing or snowboarding in the torchlight parade you can register at the checkpoint at the Lift Plaza to sign up. Registration is free, but you must have a season pass or lift ticket. Torchlight Registration · Meet ski instructors / guides at the bottom of Chair 2 at 5pm. Load Chair 2 at 5:30pm. Torchlight Begins at 6pm. · Must be an intermediate or expert skiers or snowboarder. · You must be able to ski in very low light and icy conditions. All participants are encouraged to wear warm but worthless clothing to avoid damage from torches. · Participants under 18 yrs of age must have a parent or guardian sign a liability waiver. No exceptions. |

Riders compete for a $1,000 cash purse in Open Class Skier & Open Class Snowboarder categories, plus there are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in Amateur categories, and a raffle for all competitors. After the Rail Jam, join us for a Dash for Cash, Torchlight Parade, and Fireworks at 6:30 PM at the bottom of Ed’s Run. Register for the torchlight parade at the bottom of Chair 2 – Swift Creek Express by 5:45 pm. You must be an intermediate or expert skier or snowboarder to participate and have low-visibility goggles.
