| Run or hike 3.8 miles up the Danny On trail to the summit of Big Mountain and support the Glacier Nordic Ski Team.
When: Saturday, August 4, 2018, 10 am
Where: Base of Big Mountain at Whitefish Mountain Resort, Whitefish, MT
Start: 10 am at the Danny On Trailhead in the Upper Village (near Hellroaring Saloon)
Getting down the mountain: Participants will receive a pass to ride the chair lift down the mountain. Dogs may not ride the lift.
Event Description:
* Run or hike 3.8 miles with 2,434 ft. elevation gain to the summit of Big Mountain
* Compete for the title of King and Queen, Prince and Princess of the Mountain - handmade plates for 1st place finishers.
* Dogs are invited to race (with their humans); prizes for fastest Dog . Dogs must be on a leash.

You’re invited to a triple celebration:
#1 It’s the 50th Anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act! Our Glacier National Park Star Party is on the Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River, which forms the southwestern border of the park.
#2 Last year, Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park became the world’s first transboundary International Dark Sky Park! This is kind of a big deal. Especially when viewing Montana’s star studded skies.
#3 Our launch date, August 12, is predicted to be the height of the 2018 Perseids Meteor Shower! You can learn more about the Perseids Meteor Shower here — we’re hoping for clear night skies filled with falling meteors. Where could be a better place to watch a major meteor shower than on the border of an International Dark Sky Park, on a Wild and Scenic River?
So, it’s time to celebrate. Let’s go on a Glacier National Park Star Party Float! We’ll take duckies — also called inflatable kayaks — down the North Fork of the Flathead River and spend the night in Polebridge to celebrate Glacier’s starry, dark skies. The next day, we’ll continue our float down the North Fork of the Flathead River, and should return to West Glacier around 5pm.

| Aug 20 Stories from the Bob: Youth Edition |
| Each year, the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation offers internships to young, aspiring wilderness stewards looking for professional opportunities in the fields of natural resources or related fields. This year, the Foundation grew their internship program to include five Wilderness Ranger Interns and four interns in the Wilderness Conservation Corps. On Monday, August 20, the Foundation will host "Stories from the Bob: Youth Edition," a free community event that will include presentations from the BMWF interns who have just completed a 12-week training program in the backcountry. Interns will share stories from their “on-the-job training” experiences in the Bob including what they learned about Wilderness and themselves. This is their graduation event; let's cheer them on! Doors at 5. Ceremony at 5:30. Free and open to the public. Light appetizers provided; non-hosted bar available. Opportunities to give to the BMWF via the Great Fish Community Challenge available, too. See you there! |
